Wray Buntine Ph.D.

Director, Computer Science Program, College of Engineering and Computer Science VinUniversity

TOP 0.75% of the world’s scientists based on the impact of his publications in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Visual Processing, H-index 42. Prof. Wray was the Founding Director of the Master of Data Science program and the Director of the Machine Learning Group at Monash University, Australia. More than 30 years of teaching and research experience in the field of computer science at leading universities, such as Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley (USA); and Monash University (Australia). He also received the NASA Certificate of Recognition for creative development of software (IND2.1), in 2013.

He is known for his theoretical and applied work and in probabilistic methods for document and text analysis, social networks, data mining, and machine learning. He is on several journal editorial boards and has been a senior program committee member for premier conferences such as IJCAI, UAI, AAAI, EMNLP, ICLR, ACML, and NeurIPS.

Le Duy Dung Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, College of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUniversity

He is a former senior data scientist in Ads and Personalization team, Grab Holdings Inc. and a former research scientist in School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University (SMU). He is also the winner of SMU Presidential Doctoral Fellowship Award AY2018 and AY2019.

His research interest includes recommender systems, information retrieval, and visual analytics. Specifically, his research works have been focusing on designing algorithms for analyzing user-generated data, understanding user preferences from the data, and applying the learnt knowledge to create user-centric applications.

 

Minh Do, Ph.D.

Prof. Minh Do is the Thomas and Margaret Huang Endowed Professor in Signal Processing & Data Science in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and holds affiliate appointments with the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Department of Bioengineering, and the Department of Computer Science.

 

KHOA D. DOAN,

Dr. Khoa D. Doan is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science in the in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at VinUniversity. He has extensive applied and research experience, working at various world-renowned research labs such as Baidu Research, Criteo Al Lab, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and University of Maryland, College Park. His papers have been published in the top-tier Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Data Mining conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, SIGIR, WWW, and CIKM.

His research focuses on developing computational frameworks that enable existing complex machine learning models to be more suitable for practical uses in various domains such as computational advertising, computer vision, and natural language processing. Currently, his research activities include, but are not limited to, the following three themes: deep information retrieval and its applications, generative models, and robust and reliable machine learning. He is also interested in researching and developing Machine Learning algorithms at scale.

 

KOK-SENG WONG,

He had more than 15 years of teaching record (Computer Science subjects) at universities in Malaysia, South Korea, and Kazakhstan. His research interests lie in applied cryptography, secret sharing, information security, and data privacy. He was the Visiting scholar at State Key Laboratory of Networking and Switching Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (2015, 2016, and 2018). Kok-Seng also received Best Portfolio (CQI) Award, Soongsil University (2014 and 2016).

 

LAURENT EL GHAOUI,

He is the award owner of Bronze Medal for Engineering Sciences, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (1999), SIAM optimization Prize for best paper in 2004-2007. Prof. El Ghaoui taught at the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research at University of California, Berkeley. He had over 30 years of experience in the field of optimization and over 20 years of experience working with enterprises to solve real-life issues. His research interests include Operations Research, Robust Optimization, New computational models and algorithms for deep learning, Machine learning and statistics, with emphasis on sparsity issues.

 

Jenny Dung Le

JENNY DUNG LE, PH.D.

Dr (Jenny) Dung Le is an Assistant Professor in the College of Business and Management. Before joining VinUniversity, she has 10 years of research and teaching experiences in Vietnam, Australia (Griffith University – number 1 university in tourism and hospitality management) and the USA (as a visiting scholar at Cornell University, Nolan School of Hotel Administration – number 1 school in hotel management in the USA). Dr Le completed her doctoral program at Griffith University, Australia, in 2020 and has published many papers in the top-ranking tourism and hospitality journals, including International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Current Issues in Tourism, Tourism Review. Her teaching and research interests include eye-tracking technology, digital marketing, emotions, experience design, crisis management and sustainability. Also, she participated in several consulting projects for industry partners (e.g., Mantra hotel group, Intrepid Travel group, Vietnam Electricity group) and provided practical implications based on customer research.

Phi Thi Linh Giang

Dr Giang Phi holds a PhD in Tourism Management from Griffith University, Australia. Giang possesses a unique background blending industry, INGO and academic experiences that enable her to develop unique insight and practical approaches to sustainable development, tourism management and mission-driven entrepreneurship. Besides serving on the advisory board of CBT Travel & Consulting social enterprise since 2014, Giang has engaged in high-profile consulting projects for the European Commission and Tourism Accommodation Australia. Prior to joining VinUniversity, she worked as an Assistant Professor at Aalborg University, Copenhagen, Denmark. Having lived and worked in 4 countries across 3 continents, Giang now focuses on bringing her global experience to drive positive changes through impactful teaching, research and community services in Vietnam.

Thai Mai Thanh

THAI MAI THANH, PH.D.

Dr. Thai Mai Thanh is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUniversity. He received a B.E. degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), Vietnam in 2016 and an M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea in 2019. In 2023, he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney, Australia.
He was a Vinscholar Cohort 2019 alumnus, and a postdoctoral researcher at UNSW Medical Robotics Lab, UNSW Sydney (February-August 2023). His research focuses on enhancing the human quality of life through robotics, advanced surgical systems, bio-printing, wearable haptics, soft robotics, medical devices, electronic circuit design, soft sensors, and nonlinear control. He has authored or co-authored over 30 papers published in international journals and conference proceedings and has filed three international patents.

Nguyen Thi Huong Lien

Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong Lien received her Ph.D. Degree in International Development Studies from Yokohama National University, Japan in 2010. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK. She has had 12 years of teaching experience for international joint Bachelor and Master’s Programs of Southern New Hampshire University, USA; University of East London, UK; Jean Moulin Lyon 3, France; and Vietnam Japan University. She also had over 10 years of working experience as an external audit assistant, commercial bank’s internal audit officer, and directly provided short-term training courses on internal control and financial management for many companies in Vietnam.

NGUYEN VAN DINH, PH.D.

Dr. Dinh received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam, in 2012 and the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in electronic engineering from Soongsil University, Seoul, South Korea, in 2015 and 2018, respectively. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUniversity, Vietnam. Prior to this position, he was a Research Associate with the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), University of Luxembourg (2019-2022), a Postdoc Researcher and a Lecturer with Soongsil University (2018-2019), a Postdoctoral Visiting Scholar with the University of Technology Sydney, AUS (July-August 2018) and a Ph.D. Visiting Scholar with Queen’s University Belfast, U.K. (June-July 2015 and August 2016). Dr. Dinh received the three best conference paper awards, IEEE Communications Letters Exemplary Editor Awards 2019 and 2021, IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society Exemplary Editor Award 2021, IEEE Transaction on Communications Exemplary Reviewer Award 2018 and IEEE GLOBECOM Student Travel Grant Award 2017. He has authored or co-authored some 70 papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. He has served as a reviewer for many top-tier international journals on wireless communications, and has also been a Technical Programme Committee Member for several flag-ship international conferences in the related fields. He is an Editor for the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society and IEEE Communications Letters.

NGUYEN VU LINH, PH.D.

Dr. Nguyen Vu Linh is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUniversity. Before joining VinUniversity in February 2023, Dr. Nguyen was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Chin-Yi University of Technology (NCUT) in Taiwan from February 2021 to January 2023. Dr. Nguyen received his Ph.D. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech) in 2020, then worked as a Postdoctoral fellow co-affiliated with the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) in Taiwan until January 2021.

Marc Kramer

MARC KRAMER, MA

Marc Kramer, teaching entrepreneurship, is a former faculty member at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Marc is a serial entrepreneur who has started over 28 companies and raised over $3.2 billion.

He is most known for starting the world’s first formally organized investor Angel network, The Pennsylvania Private Investors Group in 1990, where entrepreneurs could meet wealthy people to raise capital. This landed him on the cover of Profit Magazine, the Inc. Entrepreneur of the Year and a keynote speaking opportunity with the Wall Street Journal 1993. For the last 17 years, he has run the Angel Venture Fair, one of the world’s largest gatherings of Angel Investors and Entrepreneurs in the world located in Philadelphia, PA.

Marc has written six books and his book “Small Business Turnaround” won the Executive Book Summaries Top 30 Business Books. During the pandemic, he started a live weekly Zoomcast, The Best Business Minds, where he interviews business book authors from around the world. His podcast has won six international awards and has listeners in 75 countries. Marc has started a second podcast at VinUniversity called Asian Founders and Funders, which features Asian entrepreneurs, investors and major players in the entrepreneurial eco-system.

Marc has a master’s in Management from Penn State University and a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Marketing from West Virginia University.
