VinUni CECS Students and Faculty Present Early Cancer Detection Technology at K Hospital and Bac Ninh Health Conference

May 30, 2025

Hanoi, May 29, 2025 — A research team from the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) at VinUniversity, under the guidance of Dr. Pham Huy Hieu, was honored to present two scientific reports at major healthcare events: one at K Hospital – Vietnam’s leading cancer treatment institution – and another at the conference titled “Enhancing Non-Communicable Disease Management Through Innovation and Digital Transformation”, co-organized by the Ministry of Health, Bac Ninh Department of Health, and AstraZeneca.

At these events, the research team introduced their project utilizing computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to develop a tool for early cancer screening and to support medical professionals in detecting precancerous signs from medical imaging data. The project is particularly aimed at environments lacking diagnostic specialists. Notably, the solution is designed with strong practical orientation and high scalability, focusing on the needs of provincial hospitals and community healthcare centers—settings that often face significant challenges in early cancer detection due to limited resources.

This initiative exemplifies the experiential and problem-based learning approach embraced by CECS at VinUni. Students are not only equipped with advanced technical knowledge but are also inspired to develop human-centered technological solutions that directly address pressing societal challenges in Vietnam. The project also highlights VinUniversity’s active role in building strong partnerships with hospitals, health departments, and government agencies to collaboratively shape a smart, innovative, and sustainable healthcare ecosystem.
