Robotics course for high school students by STEAM for Vietnam and VinUniversity
On 16 May 2021, STEAM for Vietnam, a non-profit organization, and VinUniversity will launch the Introduction to Robotics Design and Programming Course (CS201) for students aged 12 to 17 years. This free course is part of “Bringing STEM Education to High School Students Program” (referred to as STEM Program), which has been implemented by VinUniversity since 2019.
CS201 is an extensive robotics design and programming course on VEX IQ platform offered in Vietnam for the first time by STEAM for Vietnam and VinUniversity. CS201 equips students with the knowledge of Mathematics, Physics / Mechanics, Cybernetics, and Programming and enables students to design and program robotics with varying degree – from simple to complex level. CS201 is carefully curated and suitable for the targeted students, directly taught by voluntary experts in Robotics and Internet of Things (IoT) who are working at top technology companies such as Amazon and Panasonic. Due to those unique offerings, CS02 is thus the best course of Introduction to Robotics Design and Programming available.
The first highlight of CS 201 is the combination of online education and place-based education (Online Merge Offline). Vietnamese high school students from 63 provinces and across the globe can attend the lectures and interact with experts through the online learning system (Live App). In addition, students will practice with guidance at school clubs where the robots are located.
Secondly, CS201 is offered at no charge to students as the course is operated by voluntary professionals and financially sponsored by many organizations. STEAM for Vietnam sponsors content and online learning platform while VinUniversity sponsors VEX IQ robotics kits, the No.1 robot kit in the United States, for nearly 100 high school STEM clubs nationwide. VinUniversity also encourages students from VinMaker Society and the College of Engineering and Computer Science faculty to volunteer for the program.
After the course, students will have the opportunity to hone the essential skills for more intensive courses and participate in national and international robotics competitions and events such as annual STEM Day held by VinUniversity.
Dr. Tran Viet Hung, founder of STEAM for Vietnam, shared: “The CS201 course will help students in Vietnam access to the world’s most advanced educational robotics platform so they can be prepared in global competitions in the future. It is our pleasure to cooperate with VinUniversity to bring the opportunity to learn robot design and programming to young people all over Vietnam through our educational platform “Online Merge Offline”.
Associate Professor Pham Ngoc Nam, Vice Dean of College of Engineering and Computer Science cum Director of STEM program at VinUniversity also emphasized: “The main purpose of STEM program for high school students is to instill the joy of learning and enable them to find the interconnection across multiple disciplines, especially amongst science and mathematics as well as highlight the importance of such fundamental knowledge in solving real world problem. In the upcoming time, the program will extend the breadth of STEM topics, build a STEM Master Trainer team and continue to sponsor equipment for schools to form new STEM clubs”.
CS201 – Introduction to Robotics Design and Programming Course with VEX IQ, co-organized by STEAM for Vietnam and VinUniversity, will be open for application starting from April 15th, 2021 to May 1st, 2021. Candidates will apply in a group of four, with at least one member in the group having basic knowledge of Python programming. For more details, please visit the official website of the course.
