Wray Buntine Ph.D.

Director, Computer Science Program, College of Engineering and Computer Science VinUniversity

TOP 0.75% of the world’s scientists based on the impact of his publications in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Visual Processing, H-index 42. Prof. Wray was the Founding Director of the Master of Data Science program and the Director of the Machine Learning Group at Monash University, Australia. More than 30 years of teaching and research experience in the field of computer science at leading universities, such as Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley (USA); and Monash University (Australia). He also received the NASA Certificate of Recognition for creative development of software (IND2.1), in 2013.

He is known for his theoretical and applied work and in probabilistic methods for document and text analysis, social networks, data mining, and machine learning. He is on several journal editorial boards and has been a senior program committee member for premier conferences such as IJCAI, UAI, AAAI, EMNLP, ICLR, ACML, and NeurIPS.

Le Duy Dung Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, College of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUniversity

He is a former senior data scientist in Ads and Personalization team, Grab Holdings Inc. and a former research scientist in School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University (SMU). He is also the winner of SMU Presidential Doctoral Fellowship Award AY2018 and AY2019.

His research interest includes recommender systems, information retrieval, and visual analytics. Specifically, his research works have been focusing on designing algorithms for analyzing user-generated data, understanding user preferences from the data, and applying the learnt knowledge to create user-centric applications.

 

Rashid Bashir, Ph.D.

Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering Dean, College of Engineering University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

He has authored or co-authored over 250 journal papers, over 200 conference papers and conference abstracts, and over 100 invited talks, and has been granted 45 patents. He is an NSF Faculty Early Career Award winner and the 2012 IEEE EMBS Technical Achievement Award. He received the Pritzker Lecture Award from BMES in 2018.

Prof. Rashid Bashir is the Dean of the Grainger College of Engineering, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was the Executive Associate Dean and the Chief Diversity Officer of the new Carle-Illinois “Engineering-Based” College of Medicine at UIUC(07/2017 – 12/2018). H-index 80.

 

Andrew W. Taylor-Robinson, Ph.D.

Professor of Microbiology & Immunology, College of Health Sciences, VinUniversity

Dr. Taylor-Robinson has published more than 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust fellowship to become a research group leader at the University of Leeds, and was subsequently appointed to the tenured academic staff. H-index 31.

Dr. Taylor-Robinson has over 30 years’ research experience of tropical diseases that pose a major global public health threat. Prior to joining VinUniversity, most recently he held professorial appointments at Central Queensland University and Charles Darwin University in Australia. He is an International Scholar of the Center for Global Health at University of Pennsylvania.

 

Minh Do, Ph.D.

Prof. Minh Do is the Thomas and Margaret Huang Endowed Professor in Signal Processing & Data Science in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and holds affiliate appointments with the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Department of Bioengineering, and the Department of Computer Science.

 

ROHIT VERMA,

Prof. Verma has over 118 published research projects on reputable journals on service quality management, production management, tourism – hospitality (Research Gate, 2021). He is in top 2% scientists with notable contributions in research (PLOS, 2021) and H-index 50 especially in operation management.

He is currently on leave from Cornell University serving as the Founding Provost of VinUniversity. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Dean of External Relations for Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (2016-2019); Singapore Tourism Board Distinguished Professor (2014-2019); Executive Director for Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures (2015-2018). Prof. Verma received “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Production and Operations Management Society’s College of Service Operations; “Industry Relevance Awards” from Cornell Center for Hospitality Research.

 

YULEI SUI,

Yulei Sui is an Associate Professor at the School of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). His papers have been published in top-tier conferences and journals in the field of software engineering and program analysis such as TSE, TOSEM, ICSE, FSE, OOPSLA, ECOOP, ISSTA, ASE, SAS, CGO, and CC. He was a plenary talk speaker at EuroLLVM 2016 and has been awarded a 2022 JSPS Invitational Fellowship, a 2021 ICSE Distinguished Reviewer, a 2020 OOPSLA Distinguished Paper, a 2019 SAS Best Paper, a 2018 ICSE Distinguished Paper, a 2013 CGO Best Paper, and an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (2017-2019).

He is broadly interested in Program Analysis, Secure Software Engineering and Machine Learning. In particular, his research focuses on building fundamental static analysis and verification techniques to improve the reliability and security of modern software systems. His recent interest lies at the intersection of programming languages, natural languages and machine learning. Specifically, his current research projects include secure machine learning, software analysis and verification for bug detection through data mining and deep learning.

 

KHOA D. DOAN,

Dr. Khoa D. Doan is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science in the in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at VinUniversity. He has extensive applied and research experience, working at various world-renowned research labs such as Baidu Research, Criteo Al Lab, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and University of Maryland, College Park. His papers have been published in the top-tier Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Data Mining conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, SIGIR, WWW, and CIKM.

His research focuses on developing computational frameworks that enable existing complex machine learning models to be more suitable for practical uses in various domains such as computational advertising, computer vision, and natural language processing. Currently, his research activities include, but are not limited to, the following three themes: deep information retrieval and its applications, generative models, and robust and reliable machine learning. He is also interested in researching and developing Machine Learning algorithms at scale.

 

KOK-SENG WONG,

He had more than 15 years of teaching record (Computer Science subjects) at universities in Malaysia, South Korea, and Kazakhstan. His research interests lie in applied cryptography, secret sharing, information security, and data privacy. He was the Visiting scholar at State Key Laboratory of Networking and Switching Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (2015, 2016, and 2018). Kok-Seng also received Best Portfolio (CQI) Award, Soongsil University (2014 and 2016).

 

THANH HUONG NGUYEN,

Dr. Nguyen is a member of the American Chemical Society (Environmental Chemistry Division and Colloid and Surface Chemistry division), the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors. Prior to joining UIUC, Dr. Nguyen was a Gaylord Donnelley Environmental Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University. H-index 37 Dr Nguyen received the ASCE-EWB Sustainable Development Award for advising an EWB team that develops a sustainable engineering solution that explores innovative ways of effectively capturing and utilizing resources, 2010. Dr. Nguyen is the recipient of the 2006 AEESP/CH2M Hill Outstanding Dissertation Award and 2010 NSF CAREER award.

Prof. Bo Li is a Professor with Richard and Margaret Romano Professorial Scholar and ORMIR Faculty Scholar. She was also a Data Science Founder Professorial Scholar during 2018 to 2021. H-index 48
Her research mainly focuses on spatial and spatio-temporal statistics and environmental statistics concerning problems in climatology, atmospheric sciences, public health, forestry and agriculture. Professor Bo Li has been awarded the ASA Section on Statistics and Environment (ENVR) Distinguished Achievement Award for 2022.

Prof. El Ghaoui taught at the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research at University of California, Berkeley. He had over 30 years of experience in the field of optimization and over 20 years of experience working with enterprises to solve real-life issues. His research interests include Operations Research, Robust Optimization, New computational models and algorithms for deep learning, Machine learning and statistics, with emphasis on sparsity issues.

 

BRIAN T. CUNNINGHAM,

He is a Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a professor of Bioengineering. Cunningham is a Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Academy of Inventors, The Optical Society, and American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

His research group is focused on the application of sub-wavelength optical phenomena and fabrication methods to the development of novel devices and instrumentation for the life sciences.

Since 2012 he has been the James and Neeltje Tretter Chair Professor of
Chemistry at University of California, Berkeley. He is the Founding Director of the Berkeley Global Science Institute, and the Co-Director of the Kavli Energy NanoSciences Institute, and the California Research Alliance by BASF.
He published over 250 articles, which have received an average of over 300 citations per paper. He is listed among the top five most highly cited chemists worldwide and also the VinFuture Laureate of Special Prize for for Outstanding Achievements in Emerging Fields in recognition of his pioneering Reticular Chemistry (2022).
