Program Description

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program @College of Engineering and Computer Science (UROP@CECS) provides opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in hands-on research as Research Assistant (RA) under the mentorship of CECS faculty. As an RA, students can explore and confirm their career interests, deepen their knowledge in their major, and develop valuable professional skills and connections. Engaging in research as an undergraduate also provides a competitive edge for graduate school or career opportunities.

Through UROP@CECS, students will participate in the full research process: formulating research questions and designing proposals, conducting experiments and collecting data, analyzing results, and sharing findings through presentations or publications. This experience fosters critical skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and professional communication, preparing students for academic and professional success. Projects may span a semester, an academic year, or longer, offering flexibility to fit students’ schedules. Each student is guided by a faculty supervisor who helps define Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) learning outcomes.
